Overview

In Edify Console, the SIP Trunks workspace is where you configure a SIP trunk between your business telephone system like a PBX (public branch exchange) and Edify.

Edify SIP trunks allow you to connect your business telephone system to the Edify telecom network. This allows you to make and receive phone calls from your own IP-enabled PBX with Edify acting as your phone provider.

When you connect your PBX to an Edify SIP trunk, your users are able to make and receive phone calls to anyone in the world over the internet.

To create a new SIP trunk to Edify, click the New SIP Trunk button in the top-right corner of the screen to configure the connection between your PBX and Edify. There’s no limit to the number of SIP trunks you can create.

There are two containers to configure when creating a SIP trunk:

Continue reading the sections below for a detailed breakdown of each of the configuration fields.

SIP Trunk container

SIP Trunk container

The SIP Trunk container is where you configure the connection between your business telephone system and the Edify SIP trunk. This container provides two categories of fields to configure: a primary connection and a secondary connection. The secondary connection is used for redundancy in the event the primary connection fails.

Name

The Name field is where you specify a name for the SIP trunk. The name is only used for identification purposes within Edify.

Primary Auth Type

The Primary Auth Type field is where you specify the type of authenitcation used for connecting to your end of the SIP trunk. Currently, the only and default options is "IP".

Primary Address

The Primary Address field is where you specify the IP address of the gateway that will connect your phone network to the Edify SIP trunk.

Primary Port

The Primary Port field is where you specify the port used in conjunction with the IP address in the Primary Address field.

Primary Transport

The Primary Transport field is where you specify the transport protocol used for routing traffic between your gateway and the SIP trunk. The available options include TLS (Transport Layer Security) and UDP (User Datagram Protocol).

Secondary Auth Type

The Secondary Auth Type field is where you specify the type of authentication used for connecting to your end of the SIP trunk for a secondary connection. Currently, the only and default option is “IP”.

Secondary Address

The Secondary Address field is where you specify the IP address of the gateway that will connect your phone network to the Edify SIP trunk. This is a secondary, fallback address.

Secondary Port

The Secondary Port field is where you specify the port used in conjunction with the IP address in the Secondary Address field.

Secondary Transport

The Secondary Transport field is where you specify the transport protocol used for routing traffic between your gateway and the SIP trunk for your secondary connection. The available options include TLS (Transport Layer Security) and UDP (User Datagram Protocol).

Approved IPs container

Approved IPs container

The Approved IPs container is where you define which IP addresses are allowed to initiate and make outbound phone calls, also called SIP termination. You can add an unlimited number of IP addresses here to define who can make calls over the SIP trunk.
