Overview
The Workflow Sessions data source is one of several data sources available for creating reports in App. To learn more about data sources in general, please see: Overview: Data sources for reports (App).
With the Workflow Session History data source, you can create reports that show you information about workflow items, or what we also refers to as ‘workflow modules’, that have been both processed and completed during a workflow session.
A workflow session is a period of time where the system processes through workflow items in a workflow.
There are two things that can trigger a workflow session to start running:
An event (like a customer calling a phone number)
A schedule (like every minute, hour, day, etc.)
Once a workflow is triggered to run, a workflow session is created. While the workflow session is running, it's an active workflow session. During an active workflow session, the system processes through each of the workflow items in the workflow.
Once the workflow has finished processing through a workflow item, it records its completion data in the Workflow Session History table.
The Workflow Session History data source is used for creating reports that show data about these completed workflow items.
Note: If you want to see which workflow items are currently being processed in a workflow session, use the Workflow Sessions data source.
You can use this data source to retrieve information like:
What path was taken during the workflow session (i.e. which items were processed vs. which were not)
When the workflow session began processing a each workflow item
When the workflow session completed processing the workflow item
This article provides common use cases for the data source and a list of its tables.
Use case
The most common use case for the Workflow Sessions History data source is creating a workflow sessions history report.
A workflow session history report is useful when you want to view how your workflows have historically been processed. These reports can show you the steps - or path - your workflows have taken by sorting by the Path Number column.
For example, if you have a workflow with two branches of workflow items, you could use this report to show if one branch is more utilized than the other. You can use that information to analyze the efficiency of your workflows and make changes if necessary.
Additionally, if the workflow session included one or more voice engagement modules, like a Say+Intent module, where the customer spoke a response to Hammond, you can then read that response in these types of reports, too.
