Overview: Faxing
This article covers the basics of faxing with your Avaya.cx account.
Overview
What is faxing?
Faxing is a process of transmitting documents, images or text over the telephone line. The primary benefit of faxing is security. It requires a fax enabled landline phone number and does not work with mobile or toll-free numbers.
Note: It is important to note that ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) is needed in order to connect a fax machine to a phone network. You can handle interactions with or without an ATA with your Avaya.cx account.
Fax numbers
Fax numbers are different from normal telephone numbers. Fax numbers have to be enabled for faxing in order to work properly.
When porting your number, be sure to clarify if the number is intended as a fax number when submitting your port request to lnp@avaya.cx.
To order a new number, reach out to lnp@avaya.cx to submit your request.
Once a fax number is on your account and enabled for faxing, the fax number needs to be configured. Configuring a fax number includes: routing the fax number to a destination and assigning the fax number to the users that will send and receive faxes from it.
Sending and receiving faxes
With your Avaya.cx account, you have a couple options for where you can route your faxes. This depends on how you prefer to manage them. You can manage faxes through either a physical fax machine or the App.
Avaya.cx App faxing
If you prefer to only handle your faxes digitally - and not use a Fax ATA device - then you can manage all your faxes through the App.
When using your Avaya.cx account for faxing, where you send and receive the digital fax depends on the users license type.
Faxing for Edify EX users - These users handle faxes through the WebRTC (softphone)
Faxing for Edify CX users - These users handle faxes through the queue interactions faxing
Edify EX users with fax number permissions can send and receive faxes through the WebRTC (softphone)
Edify CX users with queue access to fax-enabled queues can send and receive faxes through queue interactions.
Configuring fax numbers and user permissions
Once a fax number is available on your account, you’ll route the fax number to a destination on your account, like a queue, Fax ATA, or email address. This route tells your Avaya.cx account where to send the faxes.
Navigate to Numbers > Fax Numbers to configure your fax numbers routing settings.
After your fax number is routed to a destination, decide which users on your account need permissions for handling faxes managed through this fax number and then assign these users the fax number.
Users will only be able to handle faxes for the fax numbers that they are assigned.
The Fax Permissions container in User settings is where you assign a user access to a fax number.
